The very first race at West Capitol, then known as  Capitol Stadium on the Davis Hiway, was held May 26, 1947,  4,000 people attended.  It was a Midget show and 40 cars showed up to race.  Johnny Soares out of Oakland, who was a veteran racer with B.C.R.A. of just 3 years, won the 25 lap victory. Second was Bob Barkhimer.  Jerry Piper set the pace for the first 14 laps after getting a third in his heat.
