How much if any VIDEO is there from West Cap? I am thinking of the 1975-79 era !!! i REALIZE that camcorers were not common then, but you see stuff from the 60's and earlier, and I am just wondering HOW MUCH is out there! Was Gold Cup action in , say, 1978 or 79 filmed by anyone? The Outlaws? What about Sacramento-area television stations? Did thet ever come out to the track with the REAL good equipment to film?? Ever? I would LOVE to see some stuff! Especially from the pits/stands parking lot area!!

Yes Terry there is a lot of the West Capitol that was captured on tape. Some by a fella who always wore the orange suit. His name was Dick Metcalf and he also had spotlight on speed. Dick passed away a few months ago but he left a wonderful legecy of 35 years of his work. I personally bought 19 hours of just West Capitol and local tracks. It has been seen at many of our banquets. One thing I especially liked about Dicks films was his walking through the pits and getting angels from there and on the track. Not just go around and around in circles. He had interviews too. Another fella by the name of Guy Weybright also captured a lot of the races for chanel 10 that he still has and brought out at the first Hall of Fame banquet in 1999 to show. Guy is here in town. And then there are some fans who occassionally bring out a few reels of their home movies and share them. So to your question yes there are. You can see these at most banquets. Very Happy

Hi Doggie. I will have to contact the person who was transfereing them over to VHS from the 16mm for Metcalf. When Dick was alive he was just so happy people were enjoying his films. He told me that was special to him, but since he passed away I got a call from his son that wanted the films and that he was going to sell the rights to someone as he was the heir. I personally got my tape from Dick so I told his son that and it was a gift from him to me and I wasn't turning it over. He wanted the guys name making them and he contacted him. The guy that transfered the film to VHS told me that he gave the son all the films he had...now question is can the guy who transfered them all over to VHS and selling them as before can he still do that...not sure, but will contact him and find out for you. Question Question

I remember watching Metcalfe's "Spotlite on Speed" tv show. It was actually pretty good considering the technology they had back then.
I also had Metcalfe as a substitute math teacher in High School! (which was too many years ago).

Hi Doggie: I contacted the person I spoke of and he does have Vallego too. He can make you a copy. They are $25.00 for a two hour tape. I'm not sure if he has music to his. I know ours we took it down to Bill Race studios and he put rock n roll music to it. You are in luck coming in here cause this is word of mouth only. Rex cannot advertize them was his agreement with the son, but only to sell to people who wishes to have it for memories or see themselves in the video. Dick did some awesome work and like I said he got angles that most would have not have gotten. His name is Rex Dean and you can contact him at rdean@pacbell.net So happy I could help you Very Happy
