Wow!! What a geat site!! In 62-63 I lived in a trailer park called Harbor Village that was located about half a mile East of Capitol Speedway (big interchange there now). Us kids couldn't afford tickets but we learned every nook and cranny where we could fit through the perimeter fence. We saw lots of races there!! Great memories of the night they sent a beer vendor up to Tightwad Hill on the bank of the causeway behind the back stretch and he sold out before he got half way up the hill!!! Oh man!!... the memories of the greats like Johhny & George Brazil, Gary Patterson and Al Pombo battling in the annual Big 200!!! We used to save up to buy model car kits and then we'd morph them into replicas of our favorite drivers' cars. My favorite was Johnny Brazil's orange Super Modified. Seems like I recall his car number was 15 or 17.... that was a long time ago!! LOL!! Thanks for a great site that brought back so many warm memories of childhood friends and that great race track!!

Thanks for the great site! I am putting together a scrap book for my son Bradly and daughter Heidi of their Grandfather Jimmy Gordon SR and would really appreciate any pictures or input that any of his fans or friends could help out with.People and fans have shared many years of wonderful memories of my Dad and I could only hope for my kids to grow up feeling the same love and respect that I have been given by the loyal fans of Jimmy Gordon SR. Great pictures. I remember going to West Captitol a couple of times to watch the supers run. Remember Al Pombo, Marshall Sargent, and Lanny Walker just to name a couple. Lanny raced at Vallejo. My dad raced stocks at Vallejo in the late 60's and early 70's. Racing in the bay area was great then so many race tracks have closed. It really is a shame. Thanks for the memories.

like everyone else i too became an enormous life long racing fan. in fact they are too many memories to even write about here.i want to thank vc mcgowan, my aunt marge pasco and uncle charles pasco for their wonderful compassion for taking me to the races, (when i was a good boy). i also want to thank the haydinski's and tom parker. both have inspired me and would not have achieved what i have without their gracious and kind help. may god bless them all. there will never be a west capitol speedway except in my mind, and boy do i have the memories. mr. upside down frankie viera, crazy wheels, the preacher patterson, allways good for a qaurter bet when he was in the race, atta boy attabery, dont call me sue wayne sue, quick nick, joe gusti, the dancing phantom jerry graham, jump'n jolt'n joe randone, the capitol comet and still one of my greatest racing heroes, jimmy gordon. q. does anyone have any pics of the trophy dash where my cousin and i brought a banner down saying "jimmy gordon next csra champion" or my uncle gene corry's banner in the dash "ride to glory with gene corry" it brings me to tears, in a good way.
