I spent every Saturday night of the 1970-1972 seasons at West Capital Raceway. I worked the pit crew for Glynn & Dorothy Armour's #96 driven by Jerry Graham. In 1973 I worked on the pit crew of Donny Graham's Grand National West car. There was no greater joy than going to the races on Saturday night. I also had the privilege of working with Buddy Phillips at McClellan AFB before they closed. Great memories!

Just got back from the "Gold Cup" in Chico. I just checked out the site and it sure brings back memories. I spent a lot of nights out at West Capitol Speedway in the 60,s. The hardtops have sure come a long way..

My all time favorite dirt track to race on, so sticky some nights you could hardly walk across it.Other times so rough and bumpy you weren't sure where you might end up.I was right behind the late Dana Carter during a USAC heat race one night, he hooked a rut and left the ball park,I had warned him about West Capitol but Dana had a big foot. Such a great venue and no matter how crappy your night might have gone, there was always the Yolo club down the road.Damn, they don't make em like that any more.

Wow, what a site!!! I never had the oppertunity to attend West Capital Raceway, but my father and uncle sure did. I have heard so many stories about this place, that it feels like I was there to witness them...My father Jerry Graham, drove the #96 Tognotti's Super Modified. The racing tradition has carried on in the family, as I drove IMCA Stock Cars and Modifieds, and my son Jarrett, is racing Quarter Midgets. We are very excited about coming out for the Hall of Fame BBQ. See you all then....

Wow! just found this site by accident didn't know it existed. I loved going to west capitol as a teen ager whenever I could. I have had a lot of fun telling my kids about the track and those days. I was a Johnny Anderson #44 fan, my friends were Wally Baker, and Jimmy Gordon fans. We recently moved to Yuba City and have rediscovered the joys of going to the track, Chico on Fridays, and Marysville on Saturdays. Thanks for posting the pictures, I have tried to explain to my kids what a modified looked like, Now I can show them.
